Almost everyone these days using a smart phone and taking pictures with their mobile device. Majority of these devices has [easyazon_link identifier=”B00RVGZRR2″ locale=”US” tag=”wn0d5-20″] GPS [/easyazon_link] and geo location service enabled by default so every picture you have taken has this info attached into the final image. If you post the photo image somewhere on the Internet, there is way to pull this information from the photo and receive exact Geo location where the photo has been taken. This can be sensitive information for some photos or location and invasion of your privacy.
If you are uploading your images to a majority of popular social media sites (i.e., Facebook, [easyazon_link identifier=”B00CDUVSQ0″ locale=”US” tag=”wn0d5-20″] Twitter [/easyazon_link], [easyazon_link identifier=”1599186020″ locale=”US” tag=”wn0d5-20″] Instagram [/easyazon_link]), the EXIF data (where location info can hide) is automatically deleted.
If you want protect your privacy and do not share this sensitive Geo location information with everyone you can scrub the info from your images before you post them on the Internet. I have juts found out that this can be now done by Exif app on your mobile device.

- Android phones – PhotoExif Editor – Free app
Steps are very simple:
- Open the app on your mobile device
- Browse to the image that you want to scrub
- Click on the image
- Click on the ‘Remove Exif’ button in the upper right
- A new screen should pop up with all of the removable metadata. To remove GPS information, check the ‘Geolocation’ box, and then hit ‘Save.’
If you are on Mac computer – there is also FREE app for download – ImageOptim that does the same – removing Geo Location from your photo images.
