GP 10 – An error occurred while using the BCP utility–data was not correctly copied to the server

We have just recently patched our Microsoft Great Plains 10 to SP5 and refreshed the install on all involved workstations that are operating on 32bit Microsoft Windows Xp Sp3. All dictionary files and the SP5 were applied and fixed during the upgrade and all was just working fine… Today something happened, one of the user on the logon to GP getting this message:

So I clicked YES, entered credentials as sa and the password and clicked next and another error message got my attention on the screen

Interesting, so here are steps I have done to make sure the installation of GP is fine:

  • Checked if anyone else has the same issue
  • Checked and compared the Dictionary file
  • Checked the ODBC and confirmed it works
  • logged on as admin on the computer and tried out — all worked for me
Finally, I have logged back on as the user with issue and this is how I got the Great Plains for this user working:
  • Go to All Programs
  • Click on GP 10 folder
  • Right click GP Utilities
  • Select Run As Administrator and type in password for Administrator
  • This will finish successfully
Also I had to reset permissions for the user on the shared folder for GP on server, once you clear the permissions and re-apply correct permissions all is good and works.
All is now working just fine as suppose to. If you have any suggestions or you have different solution, share it in the comments. Thanks 😉
