Google Chrome – Updates are disabled by the Administrator

I was fixing friend’s computer running [easyazon_link asin=”1480149195″ locale=”US” new_window=”default” nofollow=”default” tag=”wn0d5-20″ add_to_cart=”default” cloaking=”default” localization=”default” popups=”default”] Windows 8 [/easyazon_link] and noticed when tried to update Chrome browser that this browser has this message:

Updates are disabled by the administrator

Could not find anywhere what is causing this as this computer is not part of domain or controlled by Administrator any sort .. However the fix is very simple and can be done in less than 30 seconds 🙂

  • Go to Start
  • Type in regedit
  • Run regedit as Administrator
  • Once registry editor opens scroll to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesGoogleUpdate
  • In the right-pane side double click on the UpdateDefault and change this value 0 to 1.
  • Now close the registry editor
  • Open Google Chrome,  Click on About Google Chrome
  • It should start checking for updates and your browser will be updated to latest version
