Outlook – This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect

Here we comes new error message occurred in [easyazon-link asin=”0735626901″ locale=”us”]Microsoft Outlook[/easyazon-link] when email message with link has been received. You trying to click on the links and open it in browser and you get error message:

This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.

To be on the good side, this is not apparently [easyazon-link asin=”0974930466″ locale=”us”]Outlook[/easyazon-link] issue itself. It has something to do with [easyazon-link asin=”1597495808″ locale=”us”]Registry[/easyazon-link] key that got corrupted and as far as I have noted on the machine in question – user has installed bunch of toolbars (Yahoo, Google, Ask ….)  and this could corrupt or damage the Registry key and prevent Outlook properly open the links.

The registry key found at:

 HKEY_Local_MachineSoftwareClasseshtmlfileshellopencommand

You can fix this issue by simple resetting the Internet Explorer browser by following these few simple steps:

  • Open Internet Explorer
  • Go to Internet Options
  • Click Advanced Tab
  • Click on Reset
  • You will see popup window, check the box Delete Personal Settings
  • Click Reset
  • You will be ask to restart the browser, once back in browser also check Manage add-ons and disable add-ons you do not need

This should resolve the issue once you reboot your computer, if NOT, you can also use Microsoft FixIt tool that will take care of the issue for you.
